Our 3rd Annual "A Starry Night Out" - Arts & Music Festival!
May 23 = Grades 3 & 4 / May 24 = Middle School
6:00-7:30PM in front of the Music and Art Building
It's lots of fun and you get a chance to see what your children have been doing in art and music! Tables and chairs will be set out on the lawn, students will perform for you, and the art room will be turned into an art gallery for you to come in and view the wonderful projects. There will be "desserts" and drinks for sale (incredibly reasonable and donated from the local bakeries, restaurants and businesses). All proceeds will go for Art and Music supplies. If you would like to help us out on our Festival, we have a wish list for the food items. If you can donate any or part of some of the items, it would be greatly appreciated!: 1 big chocolate syrup, 10 gallons of Publix fruit punch or lemonade, 5/6 whipped cream, 1 large package of napkins, 1 box of stirrers, 10 boxes chocolate chip(Keebler or Chips Ahoy) cookies, 5/6 cases of bottled water, 10 bags of ice. If you do not have time to pick the items up, we would appreciate a cash or gift card (Publix or Wal- Mart) donation. Just let Ms. Terri know what you would like to donate. Her email is terrigrant@islandvillage.org. Thanks in advance! ~ Mr. Peter & Ms. Angeline

One Person “Can” Make a Difference and We Have Proof at Island Village!

LE 2 (Ms. Lucy, Ms. Jo-Anna, and their kindergarten/1st grade students) has always been very active in raising funds for The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life (a life-changing event that helps communities across the globe fight back against cancer). One of the students (Justin) in LE 2 lost his grandfather to cancer about 2 years ago. He and his brother Nick wanted to do something to help raise money. His brother came to us and said, “I don't have a lot of money, but you can have my bike. You can use that to raise money.” Ms. Jo-Anna took the bike to Beach Bikes and Trikes (by Goodwill) on the island for a tune up. Tracey O'toole donated the tune up and bike accessories. When one of the bike mechanics, Stewart, heard the story he was so touched he donated 9 more bikes for the chance drawing. He also donated a bike to replace the bike Nick gave up. Now we have 10 bikes and 2 scooters (previously loved) that you can buy a chance to win (see below). Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. You choose which bike/scooter you want to take a chance on. Tickets are available in LE 2 and Beach Bikes and Trikes. All proceeds will go to Relay for Life. Ahh...it's refreshing to see the goodness of the human spirit catch on! Remember one person can make a difference. Stay tuned in for what happens next. UPDATE = This story was published in the Venice Gondolier on May 2nd!

March 23, 2012 - Upper Elementary students participated in their first Academic Showcase. Students were given the opportunity to design their own cultural projects, to build and present lessons to other classmates. The crowds responded with excitement and applause around every corner. We heard comments like, "we love your float", "that giraffe is so cool"! There were actually 65 floats entered this year.
