IVMS Open Enrollment for Fall 2012.
January 17 through February 17
To be eligible for Free Montessori, the child must be 5 yrs. old on or before September 1st. We ask the Letter of Intent be filled out and submitted online at our website. Current charter students do not need to do this. * Families of current preschool students who will be returning to pre-K or going to kindergarten in 2012 will need to fill out a letter of intent for the charter program. We will be contacting you later. To coincide with open enrollment, we are holding an Open House on Sunday, January 29, 2-4 PM. This includes all campuses and all levels, Early Education through Middle school. For further information, please call 484-4999.
Jog-a-thon Design Contest is in full gear. All elementary along with 5th and 6th grades are required to submit an entry. Students in the elementary will be working on their Jog-a-thon design in art class. All entries must be turned in by Friday, January 13. This year's theme "Montessori Education" encompasses Dr. Maria Montessori, the many ideas that make Montessori special and our own school's tenth anniversary this year. T-shirt Sponsor forms: Going home in this Friday's folder and are due back on Wednesday, January 18th. Jog-a-thon Designs are DUE: Friday, January 10th.
All Middle School PE Students are REQUIRED to submit a design - Points are applied to their overall PE grade
Astronomy Evening Out was OUT OF THIS WORLD!
Friday, January 6th = Mr. Bob hosted a fun night out to gaze at the stars. There were several telescopes and about 100+ people - including hot chocolate + goodies & two computers that showed exactly what and where the stars are from where we were standing - it was amazing. Lots of Fun... Great Job Mr. Bob!

IVMS students in Grades 4-8 loved the LET’S GO SCIENCE SHOW, a wacky science-based look at “how things work” presented by Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. They looked at States of Matter, Give it up for Gravity, Amazing Air Pressure, Wonderful Wings, Centrifugal Force and Inertia, Go Go Gyroscopes, Shocking Static Electricity, and Awesome Optical Illusions were just some of the segment
s. Lots of audience interaction and amazing illusions. The class was also treated to a nice brunch and chatted with the Mayor of Sarasota.

Ms. Angeline and a select group of students added a special
10th Anniversary Touch on November 4th with a dedication party and several giant ceramic flowers for Ms. Kim (IVMS Founder).
A long overdue "Thank You!" goes to IVMS parent JT Gant II. JT purchased 4 
violins for IVMS last year in honor of father Jerry T Gant and in laws Ian and Beverly Gallie. JT is also the owner of JTROCKS hair salon.

IVMS student Kira Wueger from LE 11 won the second place in the fourth grade category at the Venice Art Festival this weekend (Nov 5-6) = Good Job Kira!
IVMS Wins Best Float at the Sun Fiesta Parade 2011!!
The crowds responded with excitement and applause around every corner. We heard comments like, "we love your float", "that giraffe is so cool"! There were actually 65 floats entered this year. More so far than any other. What an amazing feeling to watch the students, especially the little ones riding, their eyes had a spark that made all the craziness seem years behind us as we walked and road with pride for our school. ~ Ms. Alice
Island Village's LE#14 Visits Tervis Tumbler Co.
The children received a tour and learned how tumblers were made. Tervis Tumbler also donated a set of 4 tumblers for our Fall Festival. Thank You Tervis Tumbler!

"Calling All IVMS Middle School Star Gazing Parents & Students" Please join us for our astronomy night out. If you have a telescope in your family and would like to join us for star gazing, please email me if you haven't already, letting me know you're interested and that you have a telescope. Even if you do not own a telescope, please join us for the event. If you can provide some snacks and/or drink that would be appreciated as well. I have opened this to all middle school LEs at this time, but I have not chosen a date as yet. I will consult the almanac for the best planet and moon viewing dates. It will be happening in late Oct. or early Nov. so watch for the next parent email from Mr. Peter. Send me an email to Mr. Bob: bobcloutier@islandvillage.org if you have a telescope or can bring a snack or drink.
